Green Design – WillPosted: June 9, 2011
Green design is the idea of designing objects, products and services to comply with the principles of economic, social and ecological sustainability. By eliminating negative environmental impact through using design solutions that require no non-renewable resources, impact the environment minimally and relate people with the natural environment.
Green design is generally a reaction to an ever growing global environmental crisis, the rapid growth of economic activity and human population, depletion of natural resources, damage to ecosystems and loss of biodiversity. Over the last hundred years or so, major companies have chosen fast, cheap and efficient methods of design and production over sustainability and ethics, ignoring the impacts of their actions.
The Green Design movement involves smarter more thought out design. It can be done and we can make a difference, its our choice. Through the application and focus on certain design aspects such as:
- Low impact materials
- Energy and efficiency
- quality and durability
- Design for reuse and recycling
- Design impact measures of carbon footprint
- Sustainable design standards
- service substitution
- Product eco design
- waste prevention
a better future is possible.
